Code Your Interactive Story with Scratch
Wednesday July 29, 2026 9:55am - 10:55am CDT
Storytelling doesn’t have to stay on paper. In this hands-on session, teachers will explore how Scratch can transform storytelling into an interactive experience where students become creators, not just consumers. Participants will learn how simple coding blocks can help students build funny, engaging stories while reinforcing concepts from ELA, math, science, social studies, and multilingual learning. By combining creativity with basic programming, educators can help students take ownership of content, deepen understanding, and express their ideas in new ways. Teachers will leave with simple strategies and starter code they can immediately use to bring coding and storytelling into any classroom.

Novel Engineering, Learning STEM Through Stories
Wednesday July 29, 2026 1:30pm - 2:30pm CDT
Educators often struggle to see how literacy and STEM can intersect, as these subjects are too often taught in isolation. Novel Engineering offers a framework for uniting the two by inviting learners to identify problems faced by characters in stories and design engineering solutions to address them. In this session, we will put Novel Engineering into practice by using a children’s book to inspire our own designed solutions, experiencing how this approach can help teachers create authentic, integrated learning opportunities that strengthen both literacy and problem-solving skills.
